FORBESGANJ: Asserting that everything was under control, state road construction department (RCD) secretary Pratyay Amrit, who has specially been deputed by the state government to oversee the law and order situation in Forbesganj town in Araria district in the wake of recent disturbances, said here on Monday, "Come what may, the guilty will not be spared.
Nobody can take the law into his hand."
The RCD secretary, who reached trouble-torn Forbesganj town on Sunday and made a thorough review of the prevailing law and order situation, said normal activities had been resumed and shops and banks were working as usual. However, with a view to instilling confidence in the people and deter the possible trouble-makers, Rapid Action Force (RAF) staged a flag march across the sub-divisional town on Sunday, police said.
Darbhanga Zonal IG J S Gangwar on Monday informed that proceedings under Section 107 of CrPC had been taken against a record number of over 5,000 people in the town and the figure might rise if the situation demands it. In all, 13 persons, who figure in the FIRs lodged in connection with the vandalism during a
Muharram procession on Friday night and the next day when protestors obstructed train and road traffic and also disturbed peace, have been arrested, Gangwar said.
Meanwhile, round-the-clock patrolling was already in place. Magistrates and armed policemen were deputed at all the strategic and vulnerable points.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has lodged FIRs against 'unknown' persons who wilfully disrupted train services between Forbesganj and Katihar on Friday night and again on Saturday at Purnia railway station, according to RPF commandant Sanjay Mishra. Mishra, on Monday, said, "Firm action will be taken against those who disrupted train movement after a thorough inquiry pinpointing the errant persons."
Meanwhile, an attempt to inflame passion and ignite trouble when some persons allegedly tried to set afire a dilapidated shop in Forbesganj town was nipped in the bud, a senior official disclosed. Keeping in view the potentially volatile situation, the Darbhanga Zonal IG, Purnia divisional commissioner Pankaj Kumar and Purnia DIG Parasnath, who are still at Forbesganj, are keeping a constant tab on the situation.
